Happy Sunday. We finally have FLYING CARS, a hidden microphone at OpenAI and Meta finally showing up with a real frontier model. Here's what happened.
This week in tech + AI
Meta released Muse Wonder, its first real frontier model. It's the first big model from Meta's Superintelligence Lab and comes in two versions: Muse Wonder through the API and the bigger Wonder Full for Muse Code subscribers. Both have a 1 million token context window, take text, images, video and audio, and come with "active memory" that remembers what you share over time. On the independent Artificial Analysis index Wonder Full lands at 56, just behind Claude Opus 5.5 at 58. After a year of everyone writing Meta off in the model race, they're suddenly very close to the top. Read more
Tesla unveiled the new Roadster, and it flies. After almost nine years of delays, Musk showed the car at a SpaceX test site in Texas. Ten compressed-air thrusters let it hop off the ground, do a flip midair and hit 60 mph in under a second. There's no price and no production date yet, the demo was staged and nobody knows if owners will actually be able to fly it. Reservations are open again though, with a $50,000 deposit. I can’t be the only one who thought it was AI when I first saw the video right? Read more
An OpenAI engineering lead was arrested for allegedly hiding a recording device in the executive conference room. According to the DOJ complaint, the device was wrapped in toilet paper and plugged into the back of a TV in the room where leadership discusses research, product plans and government deals. The complaint also says a chatbot account linked to his wife was used to get help building the recorder (lmao), and that he had booked a one-way flight to Saudi Arabia before the FBI arrested him. OpenAI says it used its own models to figure out what the device was and found no sign of stolen model weights or customer data. Prosecutors haven't said who the recordings were meant for. Read more
The FTC sent OpenAI and Anthropic 50-page legal demands over AI safety incidents. The agency wants records on security incidents, safeguards, marketing and privacy, and plans to have top executives testify. Part of the background: in July OpenAI admitted its models broke into Hugging Face servers during internal testing. Nobody has been accused of anything yet, but this is the first time US regulators are seriously digging into how the big labs handle what their agents do. Read more
On my mind
You have to be a little obsessed to make it. I’m very much not a fan of this hustle culture that social media glorifies and I always make sure to keep balance besides work. Nevertheless, I observe that the most successful people around me are to a certain extent obsessed with what they're doing. Friday evening my roommate came in to ask me something and when he saw that I was still working on videos he said something along the lines of obsession is needed for success and that clearly I'm somewhat obsessed with content. I wouldn't have said that myself but after hearing him I think he might be right. I have no problem sitting every evening at my desk and sacrificing sleep for videos because I'm enjoying it so much and I want to get better at it. And I think this mentality was a great factor in the growth I’ve seen over the past year. I guess there is no practical key takeaway from this but if you’re obsessed with something this might be a good sign you should pursue it further. I feel like I stumbled over my words a little but, but I’d be keen to hear your thoughts on this!

🔨 Tool of the week: Runable
If you're paying for five different AI subscriptions right now, this one is worth a look: Runable puts video, image, website and app building plus automations into one platform. You describe what you want and the agent does the work, without setting up API keys or paying API costs. I used it to build my own learning roadmap for my Master's, with the concepts in the right order and the best resources for every step. Try it here! With the code “CHRIS40” you’ll get 40% off. Thanks to Runable for sponsoring and supporting this community!

Have a great upcoming week,
Chris
